October was Blended

Laura continues to heal from her fall and is better everyday. But, I am still working from home everyday and have only been to campus a couple of times this month. We celebrated her 60th birthday on beautiful Orcas Island! The image below was from our balcony at the Outlook Inn. It was a really wonderful few days.

And I am working from home… One time went to campus I got to spend some time with wonderful educators from Indonesia who were visiting our campus around the topic of global learning and our COIL initiative. I snapped the image below just after we took the actual “group shot.”

You can tell by all the dang zoom room images that a bunch of the stuff I have to share was done via Zoom. That’s ok for a bit, but I am getting pretty tired of it.

I got to share some thoughts about open pedagogy with the good people at BCcampus Open Education. I shared the story of being a high school teacher and creating visible demonstrations of learning (living) via printed material and the web. Then, as the story got longer, it was the story of teaching open courses and creating open resources. I’ve shared that dog and pony show many times and still love it.

During the second week of the month we had the wonderful Gardner Campbell visit our Teaching & Learning on the Open Web community and it was wonderful.

Our Creative Pedagogies crew started off with some new faces and new ideas. I am excited to be working with a few faculty from Glasgow and sharing reflections on windows 🙂 Literally. You can see our ongoing work here on our site.

Several people in a Zoom meeting. They include a few faculty from Glasgow and a few from University of Washington.

As part of the Creative Pedagogies adventure I also got to meet some wonderful faculty and students from the University of Johannesburg. I am hoping some of them will play with us this month.

The NW eLearn Conference happened this month. I have been on several occasions and love the community. But alas, not this year. I did, however, make an appearance at the conference when one of the presenters gave a demo of Walkabout MiniGolf with me. How fun!

Lastly, I have an ongoing adventure with some goo friends from the #ds106 community. We are doing a presentation, or two, at the Reclaim Open conference in November. Our group is focusing on the Daily Create and some of the wonderful qualities it has and the impacts it has had on some of us. One of the presentations uses a blog with some stuff on it. My work focuses on blending up faculty.

I did get out on my new bike. I took a beautiful long bike ride.

And just like that, the wind picked up, the nights turned colder and the leaves changed color. And it was November.
