The month started with some wonderful events around Open Education Week. The first was event was on the 3rd and I caught a couple of the sessions. It was The Vancouver Community College Teaching, Learning, and Research Symposium. I was also able to visit with pal Alan and others in some of the OW Week Live events. One of them was with the wonderful Verena Roberts and Ken Bauer. And Gardner Campbell! The other was with Karen Cangialosi and Robert Lawson. It was really fun. One result from the time with Gardner Campbell was that he and I played some virtual mini golf. That, along with a week at the beach were certainly highlights.
I have almost a year under my belt with VR stuff. Out of all that time I have but one “friend.” Gardner and I played some mini-golf and had a blast. To date we have played several rounds.
I was asked if I might do a presentation at the eLearning Consortium of Colorado in April. I sent them two proposals and both were accepted. You can register if you wish. It is free.
What PD Formats are Working for You?
We have all made 100 videos, run 1000 brown workshops, made too many webpages, and led learning communities to help faculty better understand the learning environments and the tools they use as educators. Today feels different, doesn’t it? Join this discussion and share what is working, or what you are trying at your school.
Using International Collaborations as Faculty PD
It may be the simple novelty of getting to someone at a university located in another country that helps faculty want to learn more about teaching. It is inspiring to work with someone in another country! And we certainly need more of that these days! The silo of the department or school is just as large as the silo of the university itself. This presentation looks briefly at a few international collaborations that worked and then turns to a discussion about how participants can create similar events at their schools.
Our teaching & learning on the open web community hosted the brilliant Giulia Forsythe. That was a really nice hour. We had our first international guest too with Nathalie Tasler, a colleague from the University of Glasgow joined us. How wonderful.

Another highlight was that our annual summer concerts at the Chateau St. Michelle winery were announced. We are missing a couple favorites, but they may be added in the near future. Still, we have a some good shows!

I ran a 10k and did well. Go me! I am still feeling mostly good about a half marathon on May 4th. I think…

I begin teaching a pedagogy and technology class on the 31st. Very exciting. I co-taught it last year and get to run it online this time around. I recall the old EDU 255 class I co-taught for some years with my friend Thatcher Bohrman. We had fun running it out of Blogger for a couple years. Remember that? We later moved it to WordPress for a year or two. It is only available on the wayback machine. and you can see it here. Pretty funny.
The good news, it was like this at the beach most of the time. And on the 30th I turned a youthful 61 years of age. See you in April.

PS At the tender age of 61 I got an iWatch for my birthday. I ran with it yesterday rather than my usual arm pouch with the phone in it. Very nice.
